| 2008-11-21 | | | | With the latest figures from the grocery sector, overall organic sales are expected to be in the region of DKK 4.5 billion in 2008. In 2004, sales totalled just over DKK 2 billion. Organic Denmark expects this growth to continue such that sales will have doubled again by 2013.
Ongoing reports from grocery chains and organic companies to Organic Denmark point to an overall increase of at least 30 percent in sales so far this year, and the growth in organic sales continues despite the general economical slowdown. Families with young children are among those who are increasingly choosing to buy organic products.
"The Danes who have decided that quality and health are important considerations for the family’s food purchases are sticking to organic products. They get used to buying pure and healthy foods, and they discover that organic products often taste significantly better. And the health wave is just beginning to gain speed now," says Henirk Hindborg, market manager at Organic Denmark.
Meanwhile, the increased selection of organic products in grocery chains means that more people choose to buy organic:
"We are currently in a positive spiral. There are an increasing number of organic products in the stores, which makes it easier and more inspiring to buy organic, which leads to increased sales, which makes room for new organic products in the product range. Therefore, people discover that organic products constantly offer many new and exciting foods," explains Henrik Hindborg.
Organic Denmark expects another doubling of sales in the period from 2008-2013, at which point organic sales will reach DKK 9 billion. | | |
