| 2008-11-21 | | | | The Danish brewery Ørbæk, located on the island of Funen, has beaten Germans on their home turf, winning two prestigious gold medals in the German breweries’ European Beer Star Award.
Quality beers are brewed at the organic Ørbæk Brewery. Today the brewery was awarded two gold medals in the competition, European Beer Star Award. The brewery’s “Fynsk Forår” won the gold in the category “Herbs and Spices”, and the “Dark Horse” beer won in the category “Schwarzbier”.
Director Niels Römer is especially pleased with the gold medal in the dark beer category. “It’s great that we can send a beer to Germany and win in such a traditionally German category,” says Niels Römer.
European Beer Star Award is one of the world’s biggest beer competitions. This year 688 beers from 32 countries were judged in 42 categories.
The gold medals fit well with Ørbæk Brewery’s plans of establishing a position on the European market. There is a rising interest in the organic special beer from Funen. Fynsk Forår and Dark Horse have just been accepted into the Norwegian “Vinmonopolet” (the nationalised alcohol stores in Norway), and Niels Römer believes that the German gold medals can contribute to opening the doors to even more markets.
Ørbæk Brewery already exports organic soda and smoothies to a number of European countries.
